Flowers and Herbs That Attract Butterflies

Butterflies are attracted to bright and colorful flowers. They prefer flowers that have flat heads or many spikes of narrow flowers that provide a landing platform. Many of the flowers that attract butterflies are very fragrant. When designing your garden to attract butterflies plant in mass clumps rather then spaced out settings. Butterflies also need water. They don't like deep water at all and would prefer to drink from a puddle. You can set a small shallow dish with some sand and water into your garden in the sun and they may thank you by congregating by the bunches. Below are a list of flowers, vines and shrubs known to attract butterflies.
